Northeast tradewinds are present almost 365 days of the year on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Be careful in winter. The winds can get very strong and produce very high waves.

Most of the spots in Essaouira are suited to experienced surfers, but there are also a few calmer areas where one can learn.

The wind starts early in the morning and lasts all afternoon.

It's not advisable to surf too far out from the coastline. The strong wind and associated currents can cause problems; if your equipment fails or if you have some kind of an accident, you might have difficulties getting back in.

The waters here are not really very warm and the winds can be quite fresh. You'll need to wear a wet suit - especially in winter. If you need to rent any equipment (wet suits, boards, sails etc.) you can do so at the branch of the UCPA in the port or the club nautical on the Essaouira beach.
