The walls are visible from the port or the village "scala", which is a type of ancient fortress.

No one actually lives here, but formerly, it was a major production area, bustling with people. Nowadays it's an ornithological reserve; a refuge area for the little hawks of Eleanora, a species in danger of extinction and the only inhabitants of the zone. Entrance to the island is prohibited, as it is a nature reserve. However, if you want to see these majestic hawks in flight, you can often see them from Essaouirs beach.
