Essaouira port
Located at the southwest of the medina, Essaouira port is one of the cities key points.
Port Skala
This is a small fortified zone to the west of the city.
La Skala de Ville
The walls are visible from the port or the village "scala", which is a type of ancient fortress.
The Portuguese Cistern (La Cisterna Portuguesa)
This small village maintains until today its medieval structure.

The Medina was declared Patrimony of humanity by UNESCO in 2001, along with the Kasbah and the Mellah (Jewish district).

Take a stroll through these calm and relaxing streets. You'll find some astonishing passage ways, beautiful doorways, exotic coffees and craft shops...this is where you'll get to know the real charachter of the city.

The famous film director, Orson Welles, has a seated dedicated to him in this very medina. He made the Shakespeare classic "Othello" here in Essaouira.
