Up until this moment, Morocco has had seven of it´s numerous jewels declared part of the UNESCO. Besides Essaouira, this priveledge also applies to the following: Medina de Fez (admitted in 1981), the Medina of Marrakech (1985), the Ksar de Ait-Ben-Haddou(1987), the city of Meknes (1996), the archeological site of Volubilis (1997) and the Medina of Tetuan (1997).

Up until now, Morocco has enjoyed having seven of their numerous jewels declared pieces of the Patrimony of Humanity. For Essaouira, this privilege is also applied to the following things: the Medina de Fez (admitted in 1981), the Medina de Marrakech (1985), the Ksar de Ait-Ben-Haddou (1987), the city of Méknes (1996), the archaeological deposit of Volubilis (1997) and the Medina de Tetouán (1997).

The Jewish craftsmen who inhabited Essaouira long ago were mainly jewelers, but with the expansion of the city the trade disappeared. Nevertheless, we still find tenderetes that they would sell which were mainly silver products. All over the city, you will find objects made by the skilful hands of craftsmen from the Moroccan zocos. The Eastern beauty in all its splendor, can be seen in the carpets, blankets, slippers, fans, ceramics, flowerpots and tables. The bright, fantastic colours are very much characteristic of the city.

A stroll through the city will leave a big impression on you; it's amazing colors, the fabrics, their variety and the whole sense of wonder. This fascinating culture has to be visited to be appreciated. No matter what your tastes are, you'll fall in love with Essaouira.
