Essaouiran crafts are rich and varied; indicative of the cultural interchange that exists here. There are zocos (markets) all over the city. You'll find typical Moroccan artifacts here like: iron carpets, blankets, jewelry, ceramics, lamps, instruments like the djembés or guembris and much much more...

Jewelry manufacturing was one of the strong points of the Essaouiran Jewish community. When the Jews left the city, most of the art was lost. Nowadays, you'll still find a wide range of silver and gold jewelry here: bracelets, fíbulas in gold, silver and other metals. Also, there are some stunning local stones and ceramics to be found.

The first thing you'll notice about the medina is the scent. The characteristic aroma of worked wood fills the air. Handmade wooden items range from the smallest artifacts to household furniture. A visit to one of the numerous markets located under the arcs of the various "scalas" is definately advised.
